I have tried over the years to keep an inventory of my books, CDs, DVD (VHS at one time) and games (XB0x 360, Wii, DS and computer) with not much luck. Spreadsheets, database applications and self made web apps just never fit the bill. I was always jealous that the MAC guys had their little library cataloging system but now I have something that rivals it. I started using http://www.gurulib.com a few days ago and have been able to catalog my complete book library and start on my CDs and DVDs. If you have a web cam you can scan UPC codes eliminating the need for manual entry.

First create an account with gurulib.com, create your categories, focus the camera for up close images, hold your UPC coded item in front of it and viola! your id number is confirmed against Amazon. The detailed information is returned and your product is now inventoried.  I am even using it to track books and CDs I check out from the library which provides  a great way to track things I have read and music that I may want to purchase.
